Identity verification
Every member confirms their government ID and passes a live selfie match through a compliant verification partner.
Background checks
Criminal records, sex-offender registry, and sanctions screening - reviewed against U.S. federal, state, and local law. Renewed periodically.
Protected contact
Personal phone numbers, email addresses, and home street addresses stay hidden by default. All communication goes through the app.
Address is not revealed
A host's exact street address is never shown publicly. It's only shared after both members mutually agree to meet in person.
Trusted contacts
Optional check-ins, missed check-in alerts, and meeting details for a family member or friend of your choice.
Report and block
One tap to block. Reporting tools are always free - you'll never pay to reach our safety team.
Meet smart. Move in ready.
- Keep all messages inside the app while you're getting to know someone.
- Do a video call before any in-person meeting.
- Meet first in a public place - a coffee shop, a park, a library.
- Tell a trusted contact where you'll be and when you'll be back.
- Never wire money, send gift cards, or pay off-platform to hold a room.
- Trust your instincts. If something feels off, block, report, and step away.
A background check is one tool, not a guarantee. If you feel unsafe or witness elder abuse, contact local emergency services (911 in the U.S.) or Adult Protective Services immediately.
Fair housing
HomeMatch complies with the Fair Housing Act and state and local housing laws. Our compatibility questions, filters, and recommendations are reviewed to prevent unlawful discrimination.

Reporting harassment, scams, or unsafe behavior is always free. Use in-app reporting or reach our support team through the Help Center.
