What Room With Purpose is
Room With Purpose is a technology platform that connects older adults with an available bedroom to younger adults seeking affordable housing, and supports written home-sharing arrangements between them. We provide identity checks, compatibility tools, secure messaging, and agreement templates.
What Room With Purpose is not
Room With Purpose is not a landlord, property manager, real estate broker, caregiving agency, home health provider, employment platform, or law firm. We do not employ hosts or renters, do not provide medical or personal care, and do not guarantee any particular outcome from a match.
Verification is not a guarantee
Identity checks and background screening reduce risk but cannot eliminate it. Members are expected to meet by video before meeting in person, meet in person before agreeing to move in, and continue to use judgment throughout the arrangement.
Light household help - scope
Arrangements that discount or waive rent in exchange for help are limited to non-medical, non-personal-care tasks such as grocery pickup, light cleaning, cooking shared meals, laundry, trash, yard work, tech help, occasional rides, and companionship. Personal care, medication management, overnight supervision, and any medical task are out of scope and require licensed professionals.
Legal, tax, and benefits
Any exchange of housing for services can affect local landlord-tenant obligations, tax reporting, and public benefits (Social Security, SNAP, Medicaid, housing subsidies). Members are responsible for consulting qualified professionals before entering an arrangement.
Fair housing
Hosts and renters must comply with federal, state, and local fair housing laws. Do not screen or reject members based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, disability, or other protected characteristics.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Room With Purpose is not liable for the acts or omissions of hosts, renters, family members, or third parties, or for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the platform.
Reporting concerns
If you experience or witness a safety concern, boundary violation, discrimination, or suspected fraud, report it inside the platform. In an emergency, contact local emergency services first.
